About Milton

Milton is an affluent suburban community separated from Boston by the Neponset River and extends to the Blue Hills Reservation, a 5770 acre preserve noted for its hiking, swimming and riding trails. The highest elevation “Big Blue” has a modest ski area as well as a weather observatory.

Home to approximately 27,000 people, Milton is a unique blend of some of the most diverse and interesting housing stock ranging from modest entry level single family stock, to estate properties some of which have in excess of 60 acres. Also the town has an advantage of period homes including Federal, Victorian, Antique and other historic homes. Some working farms exist. New construction tends to be expansive with a two acre minimum in parts of the town.

Milton has five public schools (3 elementary, one middle and one high school). Since 2002, all schools are totally new, substantially renovated or undergoing construction. There are private elementary including 2 Catholic, a Montessori and other private institutions. Milton is also home to the prestigious Milton Academy, a highly rated New England prep school with an international reputation.

Milton is located only 10 minutes from downtown Boston and is serviced by Routes 93, 95 and 3. Public transportation is provided by MBTA Bus as well as 4 trolley stops located within the town. Commuter rail service is available in abutting Hyde Park.

Offering an array of choices from moderately scaled single family homes, some multi family stock as well as historic homes, rural and more densely developed neighborhoods, Milton has something for everyone. The town has two 18 hole golf courses, one private, one public. Proximity to the city, coupled with open spaces, Milton is a sought after town in the Boston Metropolitan area.
